I use notan and abstraction as a way to strip an image down to its most essential elements. Working in black and white helps me focus on the balance of light and dark, positive and negative shapes, and the overall structure of a composition. In the abstract works, I carry that same idea into color, exploring rhythm, movement, and the relationships between shapes without relying on a recognizable subject.
